Booking a court

Excluding July and August
Apartments guests should notify the hotel reception office that they intend to play, a small stock of tennis equipment is available from the hotel.

No tennis is available on Friday mornings all year round. This time is allocated to our lady tennis club members.

July and August
If you wish to book a tennis court, please report to the Club reception. All members must show their membership cards. Please note that an individual may only book one tennis court for an hour a day. If players do not arrive as planned, the court will be re-let after 10 minutes to anyone who is waiting for a game. Guests, who are playing tennis with a member who has a court, will be charged £2.00 each payable on arrival at the desk.
During these two months apartments guests must pay for tennis or join as a temporary club member.

Summer tennis coaching

Tennis coaching is available in July and August during the school holidays.
Details and dates for 2010 are to be confirmed.

Please note that each individual or shared lesson may only book the same time once a week
ie. may only book one 9am session.

Holiday handicap system

The holiday handicap system will be enforced at all Junior Tennis Tournaments at Thorpeness Country Club, i.e. At all tournaments for children up to and including 16. This does not include the Open Junior Tournament.

Whichever couple loses the first game will then be awarded a 15-love advantage in the second game. If they proceed to lose the second game too, then they will be awarded a 30-love advantage for the third game. This is the largest advantage they will be awarded. Assuming they win the third game, their advantage will return to 15-love for the fourth game. In the fifth game they will either return to 30-love advantage or if they have won the fourth game, there will not be an advantage for either side.

Thorpeness Open Tennis Tournaments

The dates for the 2010 Open Tennis Tournaments for adults and juniors will be posted here when dates are confirmed.

Tournaments are open to members and their guests, members have priority if the tournament entry is over subscribed. Please ensure you arrive at least 15 minutes early for your tournament, to ensure play can commence on time. Any player arriving after the advertised start time for their tournament, will forfeit their place in the competition.

Coaching and tournament notices-

Notices for Summer activities, junior tennis clinics and tennis tournaments will be put up one week in advance of the event.
To book a place on these events, ask a member of staff or add your name to the list.
